Thank you for a very detailed, and informative article on coursing. Other columns I’ve seen on coursing, spurred by the I-team report, tend to be emotionally driven (i.e. “O noes! save teh bunnies!”).

To be honest, while I am a sighthound owner, I do not participate in this sport. Although I do support those who test their hounds to the original purpose of their breed.

Sadly, the foxhunters of England did not announce that they were training their hounds to chase “antis” so the mounted people could attack the latter with sabres.
People who carry on like the anti-courser usually are more interested in punishing the people who enjoy coursing for the imaginary sin of taking a sadistic interest in the hare’s death rather than being nice to hares. Making illegal an activity because of an imagined state of mind in the people carring out the activity is a very slippery slope. So spoke alife peeress, Labor Party member of the House of Lords who was a foxhunter.

Unbelievable.

Goes to show when one’s sense of morality is run purely on emotion vs. reason.

I have greyhounds, and although they don’t course for live game, I do enjoy the sport.
