I have a Richard Newton Jr. Painting of F. Ambrose Clark and Mrs. Clark with Four in Hand on the yellow and Black coach. It was presented from Newton to Clark and later given to the Steward of the house, Aurthur Purseroc Cooperstown and Aiken and My wifes’ father.

There are a fair number of auction houses which schedule sales of sporting art. Any of them would be able to price, and eager to sell, a Richard Newtown. John J. Head listed the Newton paintings he knew of in “Richard Newton, Jr.—Artist and Equestrian,” Washington, Virginia: Ellerslie Press, 2006.

My mom has one of Richard Newton Jr’s paintings. She got it from one of her ex-father-in-laws back in the 1970’s. She has had it ever since. She doesnt know much about it other than who painted it. I am looking for more information about it. Like the year it was painted and title. I am hoping that you can help me. Any information would help. Its of a brown horse’s head with a black mane and tail, hes bridled and looking to the left. I have always been fascinated with it. So this would be a good thing for both of us. Thanks so much.

I have a Richard Newton jr Painting on canvas. Stable & 4 chapions, It has a large Brown horse in the middle, a white, light brown and gray horse along with a dog. How can i find its value.

My daughter has one of a horse’s head. I came from her great-grandmother’s house. Not sure where it came from originally. The horse is kind of a dappled gray and has a bridle.

“With Brush & Bridle” lists two prints published by Aaron Ashley Inc, Yonkers, NY, both in 1948:

“Morning of the Hunt” and “Favorites.”

I recently received a print by Richard Newton Jr. It was printed by Aaron & Ashley Inc, Yonkers,NY in 1945. Print no. 199. I was not previously familiar with this artist but LOVE this picture. I do not know what it is titled but it is of a dark bay horse in a stable. Other horses in stalls in the backround and includes a red hunt coat hanging nearby and english saddle on the floor. If anyone can tell me anything about this print,(title, value, etc) I would much appreciate it.

You could pay a fee and obtain auction records of sales of Richard Newton, Jr. paintings on-line, here:

You could find reference books containing the same information at a major research library, like the New York Public Library.

But the value of an individual painting can vary over a range, so the best information would probably be obtained by having an expert from a major auction house look at it and estimate what it would bring.
