Some people only see the world as it was when they were children. Since the author of this sad piece grew up, we have seen Columbine and countless similar incidents. Prescription drugs (they look like aspirin) have become the most abused drugs in our schools. Countless children are abused in our schools and churches (not that they weren’t before, but now we acknowledge they are.) It would be nice if we could keep those rose colored glasses of our youth, but it is time to grow up and see the world as it has become, not as the world we grew up in.

More Accurate Scenario: Black child attempts to enroll in school in which majority of students are white.

1958 – Governor stands in doorway of school to prevent enrollment. Black child forced to attend racially segregated public school that provides poor education.

2008 – Teachers union successfully lobbies legislature or courts to prevent black kid from receiving voucher and attending private school. Black child forced to attend racially segregated public school that provides poor education.

Scenario: Black child attempts to enroll in school in which majority of students are white.

1958 – Governor stands in doorway of school to prevent enrollment. Black child is arrested. Parents of white children burn cross on lawn of black child’s home. Black child’s father is dragged from his home and lynched. White sheriff never makes any arrests.

2008 – Black child is permitted to enroll.
