U.S. law does not allow a minor to renounce their citizenship, not does it recognize a renunciation of citizenship carried out by a parent or step-parent on a child’s behalf. In order to lose U.S. citizenship, you need to renounce it as an adult, serve in a foreign army or government as an adult, etc. So, if, as has been suggested, his stepfather adopted him and obtained Indonesian citizenship for him, this would have no impact on his US citizenship.

In the event you describe, Tracy, Obama hires an attorney, then presents clear evidence from the government of the state of Hawaii that no more complete birth records exist than certificates of live birth.

That has not happened.

Instead his attorneys have successfully challenged the standing of the plaintiffs to sue him.

When one considers the fact that in1961 the state of Hawaii’s laws allowed for multiple procedures to obtain a Certificate of Live Birth,(COLB) that only one of those procedures produced a document which actually proves Hawaiian birth beyond a shadow of a doubt, and that Obama adamantly refuses to release such a document, one can only logically conclude that something is amiss.

According to the Territorial Public Health Statistics Act in the 1955 Revised Laws of Hawaii, which was in effect in 1961, one could procure a Hawaiian COLB like the one Obama posted online by simply attesting that the child was born there, and there were 4 different kinds of COLB. The long form is the only one that contains the sworn statement of a physician and name of hospital.

If no such thing exists, it would be awfully silly to spend over a million dollars resisting proving its non-existence.”

Actually, there is no choice BUT to respond, really. Otherwise the court will enter a default judgment in favor of the plaintiff. Can you imagine the speculation of the birthers if Obama failed to answer the suits and default judgments were issued? It would go like, “See? He couldn’t even refute it!!”

Genealogists usually obtain copies of original documents at the county courthouse (i.e. birth record books). Some certs. obtained from state and local offices are copies of the original or typed version. (I have received a copy of an original birth cert. with a recently dated seal.) Birth documents and/or copies are usually in medical records, schools, colleges, some loans, etc. Birth certs are used for passports and driver licenses. Obama has been overseas several times since infancy. There must be additional documents that proves or disproves the validity of this birth document.
