It’s interesting how all of the true icons of jazz—Brubeck, Peterson, Coltrane, Miles, Ella, Dizzy—were of a certain era. While there are lots of equally (?) good players out there today, I can’t think of any that will likely have that iconic status. Maybe that only occurs when a music genre is in its development phase.
