I know its hard to feel any sympathy for the rich, but all things are relative.

I personally feel that Lucas is a douche for doing this. It would be tantamount to my neighbor threatening to turn his house into a homeless shelter if the neighborhood didn't want him to turn his house into a gas station.

I hope one of his next door neighbors converts his home into a sewage plant.

The very name "low income housing" is laughable. These units typically cost between $100,000 to $250,000 each. A more appropriate name would be highly subsidized by taxpayers housing for people lucky enough to qualify. We all know what low income housing is; it's trailers in a low rent trailer park.

Your friend needs to work on his Wiki skills; there are two different Munzers on Wikipedia. The more likely candidate is German Classical scholar Friedrich Munzer, one of the originators of prosopography. You could hardly say Muntzer showed an "ecstatic vision", after all.

The beauty of government schemes is that they create an illusion that government is somehow the purveyor of largesse rather than just a conduit. People who would never dream to petition Citibank to debit the accounts of their neighbors for their personal benefit haven't the slightest hesitation to ask government to do exactly that.

The assumtion is made that the announcement was just for the plaudettes, but if you catch the bomber there may be less need to make new laws. It's better to have a defined threat to protect people from if your wish is to further control them.

Mr. Stillman would take a much better picture if he would remove that giant stick from his ass.

What a bunch of provincial bullshit.

In 45+ years in the construction industry, holding every job from laborer to CEO of an engineering firm, I have had occasion to wear, with reason, everything from 3-piece suits to jeans and workboots. One dresses for the event, not for some style dictated by some New York hipster fop.

If you have never worn jeans since graduating college, you have sadly missed out on some of life's most satisfying experiences.

Actually, over the years, I have found that jeans are uncomfortable in warmer months. But a well worn pair of khakis and a polo shirt work very well for all but the most formal of occasions.

Then again, I'm just a Swamp Yankee from the sticks of New Hampshire. What do I know?

The Chutzpah Award goes to Barack Obama for saying: “We know that we're better off when there are rules that stop big banks from making bad bets with other people's money.” But apparently if the government is making bad bets with other people’s money, that’s just fine. And if those bad bets are made with Obama's bundlers in the solar industry, that's even better.

It also depends on what part of the country you're in. Out west here, jeans are the most common attire, even for old guys. My problem is that I am a golfer (a moderately good one in fact) and like to wear jeans on the golf course when it is too chilly for shorts. The country clubs don't like that, but it is their course so it's their rules. But it irks me when public courses pick that up thinking it will make them more classy. What other business, looking for more customers, can you think of that tells you what to wear? My rule of thumb for retail is, if they do it at McDonalds, that's the way to go.

I doubt Whit Stillman has ever changed the oil in car, cut his own grass, split firewood, hunted, shot in a competition, etc...

The proper masculine attire for walking around New York City and directing films is hardly universal.

Thank the Gods I don't pay any attention to the opinions of the "stylish" set. I'm a 55-year old industrial tech/high-purity water specialist whose favorite garb is blue jeans and whatever short-, long- or no-sleeved t-shirt is handy. Steel-toed boots or hikers for normal wear, cowboy boots, button down black shirt, black jeans and bolo tie for dress. Not much into cocktail parties, I'd rather ride my motorcycle, but on the occasions I take my 80 year old Mom to the opera(3 - 4 times a year), she hasn't raised a complaint yet... A firm believer in "as it pleases me" dress code. To suggest that "there's no place in adult life" for my style of dress suggests a narrowness of mind that, I'm happy to say, I'm not afflicted with.

Oh, so it's humorless to dislike white supremacists who advocate the murder of black children who are trying to go to the store? Well, when you laugh at Caycee Anderson punching bags and think that those taking offense are elitists with no sense of humor, I'll start to listen to you.

Cruelty to whom exactly? Persons so exquisitely sensitive that mockery of one of the American left's sacred cows causes them genuine distress have only themselves to blame.

JDZ: That's a relief--then neither has to accept blame for your inability to distinguish between humor and cruelty.

Um, you may not believe in anything so "elitist" as psychotherapy, but maybe you're a churchgoer? If so, you ought to consider having a long talk with you minister about why you think the Trayvon target is funny, and why people being offended by it is evidence of their lack of humor.
