Taigan vs. Tazy

, , ,

Karen has a new photo essay with the new Taigan puppy (Hussar) playing with Uhlan (our older Tazy). The Central Asian sighthounds are fierce critters.

Tazys come from Kazakhstan. Taigans from Kyrgyzstan. Hussar is from the first litter of Taigans born in North America.

New Puppy

He’s larger now. Arrived on Sunday. He is a Taigan, i.e. a Central Asian sighthound of the saluki family from Kyrgysztan. We’ve named him Hussar. Hussar is a member of the first litter of Taigans born in North America. Birthday: July 21.

When he is not napping, he is furiously conducting his personal reign of terror. The world is his chew toy.

Taigan chases wolf at festival

The event was near the village of Bokonbayevo, some 186 miles east of the capital Bishkek, August 24, 2007. More then 20 hunters with dogs and eagles took part. The slideshow illustrates exhibitions of hunting with Taigans and Golden Eagles using domesticated wolves as the quarry. The Salburun (hunting) festival has been held annually since 1997.
