Rather misleading exercise. Maps depicting present-day countries within their present-day borders do not reflect the true nature and scale of conflict between, for example, the Spanish empire, or the Austro-Hungarian empire, and the other belligerants down through history. Further, the US and France did indeed fight a war, the 1798-1800 undeclared naval war–the “Quasi War”– which was very much a hot war in every sense of the term. Lastly, the map reflecting Germany fails to acnowledge the crush of far flung countries that declared war on Germay during World War II when the outcome was clear and the former had little fear of risk or consequence.
Germany map not correct. For example, the then Southern Rhodesia and Kenya – among other colonies – sent troops in at least the second world war. Many other colonies, of other states too – sent troops
