Is There Nothing Trump Can’t Do?

, ,

He’s bringing back cane sugar in Coke, which Mexicans have continued to enjoy since the 1980s, while we got corn syrup.

Now, Mr. President, please start working on McDonald’s to go back to using beef tallow to fry French fries, and how about getting Coca-Cola to also put the old-time cocaine back in Coke, as well!

This is an age old argument about nothing. Tables sugar and HFCS are essentially the same thing. A little more fructose and a little less glucose in HFCS. Your body doesn’t know or care which you eat. The reason HFCS is a syrup is for ease of transportation and usage in commercial food products. As a liquid the HFSC is easily transported and transferred compared to granulated sugar. That’s it!!! That’s the big scary difference. The chemistry of fructose in both products is the same (of course) as is the chemistry of glucose.

The alternative “health” and supplement industry has done their best to make up a bunch of WHOHAW about HFCS OR about fructose. But your body still doesn’t know or care. The new coke will be less cost effective and probably a little more expensive because it will require a lot more human handling but it will be very little different as a result.

Put the lithium back in 7-Up while you’re at it.

Another point that no one seems to be mentioning is that thanks to tariffs and price supports, cane sugar costs at least twice as much in the US as anywhere else in the world. That’s the main reason soft drink companies switched to cheaper HFCS. I’m sure Trump is delighted that 340 million Americans are paying vastly more than they need to enrich a few thousand domestic sugar growers.
