Harry Reid Should Resign

, ,

Mark Levin argues.

Harry Reid… by word and action is actively undermining our fighting men and women in Iraq. His legislative efforts to starve our armed forces in the middle of a war are as contemptible as anything I’ve witnessed in my 25 years in Washington. And yesterday he made a statement that was so disgraceful and brazen that it could have been uttered by Tokyo Rose during World War II or Jane Fonda during the Vietnam War. The difference, of course, is that Reid is the highest ranking Democrat in the United States Senate.

For those who are so pre-occupied with Gonzales that they may not have heard it, this is what Reid said yesterday: “I believe … that this war is lost, and this surge is not accomplishing anything, as is shown by the extreme violence in Iraq this week.”

So, Reid announces to our brave volunteers that their country is sending them to a lost war. And he announces to our enemy that victory is within their reach — just keep up the killing a little longer. During my radio show last night, I received a call from a Gold Star father. He was outraged by Reid’s comment. He has called before and has become a good friend. But I’ve never heard him as angry and frustrated as he was last night.

Rather than join the chorus demanding Gonzales’s resignation, let me be the first to demand Reid’s resignation. And let’s see how many pundits, conservative and otherwise, will join me.

He’s dead right.

Hat tip to Seneca the Younger.

It infuriates me that Harry R. can get away with saying what he says. I want to drop in into enemy territory along with Pelosi. The two of them are the most seditious and should be tried in a court of law accordingly! We are in for some revolution. Rod Lamb

Reid is already a traitor! He should be charged. Our troops deserve better “guarding” their backs at home! The current state of politics in my country makes me sick.

Harry Reid exemplifies once again why there should be term limits in Congress. I’d rather see honest “amateur” politicians who understand the hopes, dreams, and fears of the average citizen than be stuck for term after term of deeply entrenched “professional” politicians who seem to worry about their next election the day they take office.
The rational put forward by the administration and the military leaders on why we must succeed in Iraq makes sense to me. Reid and his ilk should back down and let our armed forces finish the job correctly and with dignity.

I would not like to be a soilder in Iraq facing danger daily knowing that I do not have the support of our political leaders. How would FDR have handled this if similar views were expressed regarding Omah beach or how would Lincoln have responded after a failed bull run. Freedom is not free.

Capitulators never prosper!
Senator Harry Reid is to Marshall Pétain as the Democratic Party is to the Vichy Regime.

Reid’s pronouncements must be part of a newly formed strategy, where you publicly announce the “retreat” boldly (indirect contrast to active military action), provide the opponent ample time to respond and assume they won’t impede your exit and allow you to regroup for future action. Can anyone apply the preceding model with supporting historical precedence where the “retreating party”was able to regroup and “win”. Strategic retreat has great historical support. A public statement made by the legislative majority of this nature does not sound like a strategy to me, but seem to be more of a capitulation. I will even take it one step further, it is beginning to feel a bit more like a coup.
