Asking price: $28,000,000. Location: Old Saybrook, Connecticut — An old coastal town in Eastern Connecticut, not conveniently close to anything. Built: 1939. 15 rooms, 6 bedrooms (3 suites), 7.5 bathrooms, private dock, beach, and pond, on 2.87 acres. Estimated mortgage payment: $164,633/per month.
My guess is that they won’t get anything remotely resembling that asking price.

Don’t bet on it. This is a choice piece of real estate in one of the choicest locations on the entire East Coast. Maybe in the whole country. And, the people who can pony up $28M haven’t really been hurt by the recession.

What’s so choice about Old Saybrook? You can get to Norwich or New London easily? 2.8 acres for 28 mill?? There’s lots of choicer real estate. 28 million will buy you a decent place in Manhattan or Beverly Hills or thousands of acres in Montana. You could buy a couple of historic mansions with large acreage in the Virginia horse country, convenient to Washington, for that kind of money.

One would have to be pretty deeply confused to think that THAT house or THAT property is worth more than 6 million. As to CT well there is no other state as bankrupt (higher per capita debt than CA) the real money left a long long time ago.
