The nincompoops in Norfolk, Va claimed the six shooter design constituted a “replica” and was therefore prohibited. The poor girl missed her flight home to Jacksonville, Fl, and wound up being put on a flight to Orlando. All over a decorative element on a purse.
Newt Gingrich ought to start promising to eliminate the TSA.

The cure(TSA) far outweighs the aliment. Look to Israel and its ‘profiling’ for aviation security.

I’ve been hearing that either airlines or airports (or both) have the option of providing their own security. If this is true, it would seem to me that any airline that could show a good safety record through their own methods of screening would have an advantage over their competitors. It would make the term “frequent flyer” have a whole new meaning.

This is precisely the issue that Phil Howard wrote about in yesterday’s WSJ. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970203833104577070403677184174.html
“Regulation is deliberately designed to avoid human discretion—to create a regulatory code that is self-executing. By making rules as precise as possible, we hope to avoid bad judgment. The unfortunate side effect has been to preclude good judgment. Modern regulation doesn’t just control undesirable practices—it indiscriminately controls all the work of regulated entities.”
