Roger L. Simon observes that the Benghazi scandal will continue long past election day and will hang, like an albatross, around the neck of a second Obama presidency.
One way or the other, Obama will pay. And as he pays, through the relentless accusations of an impeachment, inevitable or otherwise, his party will be constantly on the defensive, the reputations of their leadership incalculably besmirched. Though they do not realize or choose to ignore it now, the Democrats will be lucky if Obama loses on November 6.
If he wins, not even the mainstream media will save him. Although a few will try, the walls are already crumbling.

He’s quite right. If Obama loses, the Republicans will most likely accept his electoral rejection as sufficient punishment for Benghazi and the subsequent cover-up. If he wins, they will pursue him like the Furies, and the truth will inevitably come out to destroy him.

Simon says, “Even to someone like me who never much liked Barack Obama, it’s hard to believe he would do such a thing.”
No, it’s not. This is a man who lives about as far from the real world as you can get — the Bizarro World of Chicago politics, where truth is as malleable a word as “is” was for Bill Clinton.
Imagine for a moment that this had happened to a more grounded president. Say someone like Chris Christie or Mitt Romney. Here’s what they would have said: “We messed this up. Somehow, we didn’t have the protection at the embassy that we really should have. I don’t know yet exactly why, but when I have all the facts I’ll give them to the American people.”
That would have sufficed. And the blame would fall wherever it should — probably somewhere in the State Dept or CIA. But the President would not be constantly playing defense to a lie.
If President Nixon had pursued this strategy with Watergate, he would not have had to resign. If President Clinton had admitted to a “dalliance” with Monica, he would not have been impeached. But Nixon, Clinton and Obama are all built of the same stuff. The stuff that allows them to believe that they are so omnipotent that the honesty is only one of several options to consider.
