Once upon a time the routine examination of phone records would have been accepted as a reasonably safe trade-off to identifying terrorist threats. After all, you trust that your government would use that information only as intended. But then you trusted your government not to use your tax returns for anything other than as intended also.

This administration has utterly destroyed that trust. I do not really want to live in a country where I must be on constant guard against my government.
