Down in Somerset County, next Saturday, the John Henry Mellot auction company will be holding an estate auction at a local farm.
Since they posted a photo of this round object mounted decoratively at the gable of the barn, I expect it will probably be for sale.
I’m not actually looking to own one of these myself, but I am curious as to what is the identity of this large, obviously antique, article of agricultural technology?

I believe that is an older Pennsylvania Dutch hex sign, made before the era when they were gussied up for tourists.

Agree, but it’s an unusual one and collectible.

Hex signs are painted designs. I may possibly be wrong, but I think this is a metal physical object nailed up as decoration on the barn gable, and I suspect the auction company means to take it down and sell it.
My guess is that it is a piece of some old-time farm machine, though I have no idea what kind.

This is likely a large coal furnace grate out of an old furnace Have seen them collected by the Minnesotans before. but is bigger than any i have seen— public building sized?
