How well remember that room in the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam when as a student during my first sojourn in Europe (1967) viewing that magnificent Rembrandt, with tears welling up in my eyes, knowing that idiots had trimmed off “excesses” to fit that frame tens of decades earlier. I need not have grieved as these young Dutch will permit the conversion of their heritage into a mosque.
