I’ve heard, but not bothered to verify, that Windows jumped from 8 to 10 because there were so many vestigial references to “9,” i.e. Windows 95/98 that they couldn’t clear up.
Or that could be total BS and the MS marketing people just decided that 10 was more appealing to the consumer.
NT actually was an operating system back in 1993. It was meant for scientific use and was in place at both of the universities I studied at in the early nineties. New Technology. It laid the foundation for much of what actually became Windows 2000.
