“New York Values” Comment Won’t Hurt Ted Cruz

Ben Shapiro observes that the rest of us understand exactly what Ted Cruz was talking about.

The media of New York City playing dumb on “New York values” while they look down their noses at the rest of the country is the height of ridiculousness.

Mark Twain knew what New York values were: “All men in New York insult you–there seem to be no exceptions. There are exceptions of course–have been–but they are probably dead. I am speaking of all persons there who are clothed in a little brief authority.” That was in 1885. Nothing has changed.

New Yorkers are famous for being rude, socially liberal, in favor of big government, in favor of social leftism – and most of all, convinced of their own superiority. This is why everyone hates Yankees fans.

There are wonderful things about New Yorkers, too. But when people say that someone is “New York” outside New York, everybody knows what they mean, just as if they say that someone is “Texas” outside Texas, everybody knows what they mean.

I guess I’ll have to see terms of endearment now.

I live in NY. Cruz is right.

I’m looking to emigrate to America.

A while back the thug, Gov Cuomo, said anybody that is pro-life, pro-Second Amendment, pro-traditional family/marriage isn’t a New Yorker and needs to get the Hell out. A while back I became a felon in NY when I declined to register an assault weapon.

Hey, that shitty rag you show has only 200,000 circulation. Nobody reads it, anymore.

I lived in New York for five years. I grew up in the Midwest, but my parents, grandparents, and great grandparents were from New York. I spent summers on Jones Beach and Christmases skating in Central Park or Rockefeller Center as a child. One of my great grandfathers built the freaking subway. Another was a police officer killed in the line of duty. One grandmother was born on 8th St and Sixth Avenue. One grandfather was born were the Triborough Bridge now is. My parents’ wedding reception was held were Luca Brazi was killed in “The Godfather.” My grandparents are buried not far from where Don Corleone was buried in “The Godfather.” I still have my Christmas dress from kindergarten, bought at Best & Co. (Paved over for Trump Tower.) My grandfather worked most of his adult life in a men’s clothing store a few blocks from where I found a job, on Fifth Avenue. My family history goes back for three or four generations on New York.

But for the five years I lived there, I was CONSTANTLY condescended to: “It’s not like your really a ‘New Yorker.'”

Ugh.

When I saw the movie, I had just kind of glossed over the punchline on that scene. Because it wasn’t a punchline; it was just the impression that one group of people leave on other people.
