Paul Conchas (born Paul Hutt circa 1875) was a German strongman juggler who made a specialty of glorifying Prussian militarism. Starting around 1895, he began performing as “the Military Hercules,” wearing the uniform of the elite Prussian Household Guard, complete with eagle-crowned helmet, and juggling six cannonballs, tossing in the air a 187-lb. artillery shell, or juggling three rifles with fixed bayonets which he would fire while juggling.
Despite his act’s militaristic themes, Conchas stayed in the USA during WWI, where he died in 1916.
Hat tip to Karen L. Myers.
