Winter 1973-74. North Atlantic South of Azores. Five Days heading into wind with little forward progress. One distress signal heard of a near-by vessel foundering. From bridge actually measured 70 foot waves crashing over bow. Below deck in engine room groaning of the ship’s steel frame and plates could be heard over the noise of the two story high diesel engine that ran on bunker oil after being preheated and filtered. Ship was 375 ft long. Came through unscathed.
