19 April 1775

,

“Stand your ground; don’t fire unless fired upon, but if they mean to have a war, let it begin here.”Captain John Parker.

By the rude bridge that arched the flood,
Their flag to April’s breeze unfurled,
Here once the embattled farmers stood
And fired the shot heard round the world.

–Ralph Waldo Emerson

Many years ago (60 years I would guess) I made the walk from Boston to Lexington. Some of it is a known and “signed” route and other parts are a maze of streets where you simply pick one. It is a long way. I don’t remember how far but it was close to 20 miles as a pedestrian.
