Why Did Democrats Smear a Straight Arrow Guy Like Kavanaugh?

,

Judiciary Committee democrats.

John Hinderaker has an explanation that works.

One question I have pondered over the last few weeks is, why are the Democrats so determined to block Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court? Realistically, he is the most moderate nominee they are likely to see from the Trump administration. If his nomination fails, the president will most likely appoint Amy Barrett, who is secure against #MeToo allegations and is both more conservative and younger than Kavanaugh. So what is the point?

To some extent, the Democrats’ bizarre smear campaign against Kavanaugh is explicable on short-term political grounds. The Democrats’ crazed base demands that they #Resist, so resist they will, whether it does any good or not. But I think there is something deeper and more sinister at work.

Brett Kavanaugh enjoys one of the most spotless reputations of anyone in American public life. He has been enthusiastically endorsed by those who have known him all his life–by girls he knew in high school and college, by judges he has served with, by professors and students and Harvard and Yale law schools, by judges who have worked with him, by his judicial clerks–most of whom have been women–by the American Bar Association, by sitting Supreme Court justices. In short, everyone who has ever known or dealt with Brett Kavanaugh endorses him.

I think that Judge Kavanaugh’s pristine reputation is one reason why the Democrats have unleashed against him a smear campaign unparalleled in American history. This is the message they are trying to send: If we can do this to the Boy Scout Brett Kavanaugh, we can do it to anyone. Are you thinking of serving in a Republican administration? Or accepting an appointment to the federal judiciary from a Republican president? Think twice, and then think again.

That picture is a horrid injustice to baboons and chimpanzees (was there a gorilla or orang?)

Not that long ago Black men were beaten or lynched when they were accused of sexual misconduct with white women. The Mob held its own “trial” and exacted its own “justice”. The townspeople looked on approvingly because, whether the accusations were true or not, it acted as a deterrent to black men getting “friendly” with white women.

I don’t see how this process is much different.

I really don’t think the “smear him because he’s a straight arrow” angle is much of a factor. And it implies that the Democrats secretly know he’s clean, when I think they’re more of the “everyone’s got something to hide, especially the one’s who don’t seem to, and especially you Republicans with your toxic masculinity and rape culture” mentality.

The short term explanation is, I think, sufficient. They’re convinced they didn’t win in 2016 because they didn’t work up their base enough, and the “Trumpoplexy” they feel is the one tool they have to work with, so their strategy is to keep emotions high 24/7. Realistically there’s a lot they could probably accomplish with Trump if they were willing to negotiate with him on a day-to-day basis. He’s obviously not allergic to huge deficits, and they could probably even talk him into preserving some regulations they favor. But they’ve seen what compromise on that basis has done to the Republican party over the years, and that distinguishing their “brand” while demonizing all others is the only way to retain the power they’ve become accustomed to. Thus Kavanaugh becomes an “extreme right winger”, and even if he’s confirmed, he becomes a symbol of their determination to fight.

I say that even if Kavanaugh doesn’t get enough votes this time around, you bring him up again in the future. Trump may have another 3 or 4 SCOTUS picks over the next 6 years.

Screw the Libs and get him in and some far-right wingers also.

The motives for the smear are abortion; money; and massive grief over glorious November 2016 Trump win.

Paraphrasing Bill O’Reilly, US politics are run on money, TV (and now social media) and bull shit.

Close to a million abortions a year bring in $$$ hundreds of millions, a lot of it tax and government-mandated health insurance money, after all ACA individual mandate is a tax – ask the SCOTUS.

Planned Parenthood directly receives a quarter $$$ billion tax dollars a year. That increases cash flows to allow spending on lobbying. So, the bull shit that tax money doesn’t go to abortions or lobbying is pure Bull Shit. Without that $250+ million tax money they could not spend so much on guerrilla political warfare, e.g., what they’re doing to Judge Kavanaugh.
