Who’s Winning the War? Vodkapundit Finds Some Clues

, , , ,

Some Putin-worshipping Paleocon morons were recently posting on FB Russian Defense Ministry claims that Russia is winning the war in Ukraine.

Well, here’s a Vodkapundit posting that addresses just how well Russia’s doing. The orcs have lost so much armor, they are reduced to sending out early 1950s tanks to the front. And Russia has joined a Chinese New World Order basically accepting the role of vassal to China in exchange for rather limited Chinese support! So, tell me, Cheese-Eating-Surrender-Monkeys, who is it that’s losing the war?

Having lost more than 3,000 capable main battle tanks from the late-’60s vintage T-64s through fully modernized T-90s, Moscow was pulling far less capable T-62 medium tanks out of storage.

Well, if the T-62 is a museum piece, then the T-54/55 series — whose development began before the Cold War officially began — is practically an archeological exhibit. And yet those very same tanks, first built when toddler Boomers were grooving on the first season of Howdy Doody, have been spotted on railcars moving west towards Ukraine from Soviet-era depots in the east. …

Firepower is firepower. If a 75-year-old design can be used for infantry support (it wouldn’t last a hot minute in the main battle tank role), then those foot soldiers are better off with a T-55 nearby than without one. …

Xi was in Moscow this week for high-level talks with Putin, and those talks have already gone a long way towards establishing that new New World Order — one very friendly to Chinese interests. Much more important than the phony-baloney peace plan Xi put on the table earlier this week is the trade deal just announced between Beijing and Moscow.

Reuters reported Wednesday that the summit “produced 14 agreements on topics from soybeans to atomic energy.” Chinese tech will help Russia ride out Western sanctions and carry on the war in Ukraine, and Russian natural resources will help make China less reliant on vulnerable sea lanes. However, Reuters said, the agreement “did not yield the big prize Russia wants: a deal on a new gas pipeline.”

“There are two likely sticking points: who will build the 2,600 km pipeline and how the gas will be priced. China is well placed to drive a hard bargain, as Moscow needs the deal more,” and so the bottom line is that “China has powerful leverage to secure advantageous price terms.”

A Financial Times report quoted Maria Shagina, a senior fellow at the International Institute for Strategic Studies: “It’s hard to hide the fact that Russia is now a junior partner.” China has two kinds of foreign relationships: Trade partners and vassal states. Putin’s stupid war is demoting Russia from partner to vassal.

Everyone wants Ukraine to win. They are the injured party. But, do you remember the story of the Ronson and the Panzer? The Panzer was a modern, wonderful battle tank, state of the art, built with precision of the best materials. The Ronson was the slang name for the Sherman, hopelessly outgunned, out armored, and a design so pathetic, it was nicknamed after a cigarette lighter, for its reliable bursting into flame after being hit with the superior German 88
gun. But, the Sherman’s kept coming, by twos, then fives, then tens, then hundreds. Then, it was over.
While the Russians are sending old tanks into the battle, and you are laughing, you haven’t pointed out what tanks the Ukrainians have as reserve, at this point.
Or, who will run them.
The Ukrainians really should have maintained about a half dozen MREVs perched on ICBMs. This never would have happened. Too late, now.

One does not need to be Putin lover to face reality. Do you really think the Ukrainian army will march triumphant into Moscow and claim it for the glory of Victoria Nuland?
As the great line goes: “This business will get out of control. It will get out of control and we’ll be lucky to live through it.”

The Afghan ghazis didn’t need to take Moscow. They just needed to bleed Russia enough to persuade the orcs to withdraw in defeat.

With today’s modern weapons the only difference between a tank or any armored vehicle and a crematorium is that the victims are alive when they are turned into ashes. The major lesson from this war is tanks are not practical against an enemy with shoulder fired tank killing missiles.

Of course Russia will win. The question is what will they win? Will it be Eastern Ukraine, all of Ukraine or what. AND what will Russia do then. Losing their ass to win Eastern Ukraine will make a lot of Russian mothers pretty damned mad. Russia may win but they won’t be able to afford to win another war like this one.

Russia losing? Ukraine has lost over 150,000 dead. Russia has lost a third of that. Ukraine started out with 3,000 tanks, and now has… none. Russia is arming Russia with old Russian equipment? The entire Western world is arming Ukraine.

Russia is making slow gains while grinding the remnants of the Ukrainian army to paste, exactly to plan. (Trenches don’t work terribly well against drone-spotted artillery.) Russia already holds 90%+ of the territory they wanted. The rest is part of their stated war aims – the destruction of the ability of Ukraine to be a threat to Russia. Which, you know, they were, as evidenced by their systematic slaughter of over 40,000 ethnic Russian civilians 2014-2022.

Why would anybody take the side of the genocidal dictator? You know, the guy who, in addition to a formal policy of genocide and book burning, banned all opposition parties, nationalized the media, and sends the secret police out to murder dissidents? (And no, that’s not Putin I’m referring to.)

China is funding both us and them.

Russia is slowly winning this war, which is a war of attrition. Russia’s huge, at least 10:1, advantage in artillery means that most of the casualties are Ukrainians. The usual guess, not quoted from Ukrainian handouts, like Vodkapundit does, is that Ukraine has lost over 200,000 dead and 300,000 seriously wounded. Russian losses are less than 10% of that.

It is striking that Jewish neocons hatred of Russia and Russians is so great that they actively support a the Nazi junta that rules Ukraine. The junta is not coy about their 1930’s/1940’s Naziism, either. Their troops openly wear Nazi insignia and tatoos, use the Nazi salut, celebrate Nazi heroes, play Nazi music…

This war started when the neocons who run the US staged the coup d’état that removed Ukraine’s only legitimate, democratically elected President, Yanukovych, whom they also tried to murder.

Their puppet Nazi junta then spent 8 years shelling ethnic Russian towns, in order to ethnically cleanse Ukraine of Russian. (Echoes of Palestine).

The neocon in Washington have repeatedly intervened to prevent any negotiated settlement, most recently in April. That agreement would have implemented the Minsk agreements and kept Donbas in Ukraine.

The neocons are now demanding the unconditional surrender of Russian and the removal of its government and the imposition of a colonial government.

How stupid to you have to be to accept the Russian Ministry of Defense’s bullshit figures? You are misinformed because you are reading bad sources full of 100% Russian propaganda. Smarten up.

OneGuy

IMHO it is worse than “You are misinformed because you are reading bad sources full of 100% Russian propaganda.”

For example Bob Sykes thinks that the Ukrainian soldiers are 90 YO Nazis. LOL Talks about shelling ethnic Russian towns,” with zero context of the insurgency that Russia was fomenting in those towns where they killed ethnic Ukrainians.

Or McChuck totally uninformed about how large the Russian casualties and deaths are. It is a disaster for Russia even by Russian standards.

What we are seeing is the tragedy of war, deaths, insurgency, street justice, torture… This is how wars are fought! Just because you get to see it on TV doesn’t make it new or more evil than all the past wars, this is how wars are fought. Ukraine is fighting for their lives. If I were them I would use every dirty trick in the books… everything!

JDZ

Does this “war of attrition” stuff come from Spengler? He is a VERY dubious authority.

McChuck

Really? I’m misinformed? Yes, I know I low-balled the Ukrainian casualty figures, because I’m trying to be nice. (They’ve probably lost over 200,000 by now.) The Russians have lost between 30,000 and 80,000 dead, most probable 50,000-60,000.

The Ukrainians are winning so hard that they’re screaming for help while Russia is still occupying the ethnic Russian provinces that were formerly Ukraine. (They voted to leave and join Russia. It’s the will of the people. Or does that only count for Muslim Albanians?)

Where do I get my estimates? Various sources from around the world. I know better than to trust anything CNN and the New York Times say.

‘Ronson was the slang name for the Sherman, hopelessly outgunned, out armored, and a design so pathetic, it was nicknamed after a cigarette lighter, for its reliable bursting into flame after being hit with the superior German 88
gun.’

No, the Ronson slogan ‘Lights every time’ was post WW2, had nothing to do with the Sherman.

The Sherman was a medium tank which was much more likely to encounter the similar German medium Panzer4, not the relatively rare German heavy tanks.

IIRC, US tank platoons consisted of 5 tanks, if you had a problem you sent the platoon not individual tanks.
