Recently, in some of my comments, and on Facebook, I’ve run into people quoting Russian Ministry of Defense “Russia’s Winning casualty stistics,” “Ukranians are Nazis,” “Yanukovych’s election was a triumph of democracy,” and similar outrageous examples of Russian propaganda.

Some American Thinker editorialists, Spengler, Z-man, and the crowd at American Conservative, I know, are old-time Paleocon isolationists, but a lot of this stuff goes well beyond what these guys would publish. So, tell me, where do you guys get your “facts” and “Information”? I’m curious and I’d like to respond specifically to those sources.

I am not of that mindset but I also read the blog Western Rifle Shooters Association where many who post there are quite anti-American, anti-Trump and lean pro-Putin. I’m beginning to believe it is a bunch of Russian bots posting there.

Another place is Canadian Prepper on Youtube. He is clearly not anti-American or pro-Putin but his rhetoric is wild.

I get my facts from reality, on-the-scene reporters, and various news sources from around the world, plus a decent memory and career in intelligence and counterintelligence.

The Russians are grinding the Ukrainians to paste with artillery. Both sides have lost thousands of armored vehicles, showing the power of modern anti-tank weapons (and lack of combined arms operations by both sides). (Army Chief of Staff GEN Shinseki predicted this sort of thing almost 25 years ago, and tried to prepare for it by developing lighter, faster, cheaper armored vehicles. What’s the point of heavy armor if shoulder fired missiles can whack them anyways?)

The best defense against drones is electronic warfare. The second best is an armed “fighter” drone, which the Air Force won’t use due to ego issues. The third best is standard air defenses – which the US Army nearly eliminated 20 years ago.

Fact – the Ukrainians were subjected to a US-sponsored “color revolution” in 2014.

Fact – the US selected new government then embarked on an official policy of genocide against their ethnic Russian citizens (1/3 of the population), outlawing the language and expressions of culture, literally burning books and magazines.

Fact – Ukraine violated every single peace treaty provision, randomly shelling Russian villages, towns and cities, killing over 40,000 Russians civilians 2015-2021.

Fact – The US and NATO promised Russia in 1991 that NATO would never move eastward.

On any given day, I can go on various sites and read diametrically opposed opinions on which side is winning the war. At this point, I have no idea who to believe.

Having said that, I just don’t see how Ukraine can hang on, in spite of the superior weapons (delivered grudgingly) and the intel from the West. I say this for two reasons:

(1) The comparative size of the two countries, and

(2) Putin’s willingness to sacrifice as many Russians as needed in order to stay in power. He has to keep doubling down to keep from getting his head ventilated.

“I just don’t see how Ukraine can hang on”

They may not. They may lose everything. But that does not change the fact that they have a right and obligation to fight to defend their homeland. We would do the same here if we were invaded, well most of us would.

“Ukraine violated every single peace treaty provision, randomly shelling Russian villages, towns and cities,”
You seem to believe that we weren’t also aware of what was going on back then and can ignore that the violence was from both sides. These “random” villages were attacking Ukraine. It was a civil war. It is dishonest to give one side and declare it to be “a fact”.

If Nuland, Blinken, Biden, and Bolton are for it, I’m against it.

Fact – the Ukrainians were subjected to a US-sponsored “color revolution” in 2014.

Wrong. The Ukrainians themselves, after a stolen election, chased out a Russian puppet and restored a free government, narrowly escaping being reduced to the same kind of puppet status as Belarus. Europe and the US applauded, and lent moral support, but we are hardly capable of “subjecting” unwilling countries to revolutions.

Fact – the US selected new government then embarked on an official policy of genocide against their ethnic Russian citizens (1/3 of the population), outlawing the language and expressions of culture, literally burning books and magazines.

What incredible horseshit! I’m personally critical myself of linguistic nationalist movements, however the Ukrainians have plenty of reasons to desire not to be ruled by Muscovy. And it is perfectly natural for former Captive Nations that have experienced both Russian occupation and forcible Russification to oppose the nationaiistic ambitions of residual occupiers and to institutionally favor their own historical perspective, culture, and language.

Poor oppressed Russian speakers! They are in the same unhappy position as the poor oppressed Germans in the Czech Sudentenland in 1938 and in Danzig in 1939. So you think obviously Hitler and Putin had every right to invade those neighboring countries to rescue their unhappy kinsmen.

Most of us think that it is Russia that is committing Genocide, deliberately attacking civilians and kidnaping tens of thousands of children.

Fact – Ukraine violated every single peace treaty provision, randomly shelling Russian villages, towns and cities, killing over 40,000 Russians civilians 2015-2021.

Or so says the Kremlin Ministry of Propaganda. The rest of us say Ukraine fought against a Russian-organized insurgency trying to subvert and annex a particularly industrially-important portion of its country.

Fact. More significantly, on the treaty front, Russia signed in 1994 the Budapest Memorandum promising to respect and defend Ukraine’s borders and sovereignty in return for Ukraine surrendering to Russia its nuclear weapons, the third largest nuclear arsenal in the world. Boy! I bet the Ukrainians wish they had kept those nukes!

Fact – The US and NATO promised Russia in 1991 that NATO would never move eastward.

Bullshit. And why does it matter to Russia if former captive nations join the EU and NATO. Absolutely nobody has any ambitions of invading or conquering Russia or annexing its current territories. The only basis for Russia objecting to Ukraine being in NATO is that it would interfere with Russian aggression.

Evidently, you support Moscow’s natural right to invade and occupy its neighbors.
