Roman Phrygian Type Bronze Cavalry Helmet, 100-250 AD. The helmet, terminating into the head of an eagle, has images of winged Victory. Warriors adorn the cheekpieces. Musee d’Art Classique de Mougins.
Exquisite helmet. But–remember that the museum people exhibiting this are barred from attempting to rehabilitate it back to its original glory.
Cavalry troops were and still are elite units. This helmet would have been polished to a high sheen and luster by its owner.
Imagine a few hundred mounted horsemen wearing such helmets brilliantly gleaming in the sun, coming at you at a gallop, holding a long lance.
Fearful!
