Now Winter Nights Enlarge

, ,

Lucas van Valckenborch, Winter Landscape, 1586. Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna.

Now winter nights enlarge
This number of their hours;
And clouds their storms discharge
Upon the airy towers.
Let now the chimneys blaze
And cups o’erflow with wine,
Let well-tuned words amaze
With harmony divine.
Now yellow waxen lights
Shall wait on honey love
While youthful revels, masques, and courtly sights
Sleep’s leaden spells remove.

This time doth well dispense
With lovers’ long discourse;
Much speech hath some defense,
Though beauty no remorse.
All do not all things well:
Some measures comely tread,
Some knotted riddles tell,
Some poems smoothly read.
The summer hath his joys,
And winter his delights;
Though love and all his pleasures are but toys
They shorten tedious nights.

Wonderful! Thank you. I’m so enamoured with this entry, that I may post it also. With a click-able link back to you, of course!

I read here often, and sad-to-say, have been a lurker. I used to so dislike lurkers. -Bahh Humbug- But now, with all the conservative blogs I follow for my news, I’ve fallen into the Lurker Class. -sigh- Not proud of it, either.

But then, you are smart enough to have a kind of a Site Meter thing, so you see the number of Visitors your blog gets. I’m sure, the Visitors numbers, are many times the number of Commenters. This even is the case, with a wee little blog like mine, over in “Pretty Blog Land,” as I call it. [“P.B.L.” = soft, pink, cozy, warm, saying mostly away from controversy. -sigh-]

Thank you in advance, for the work you’ll do, in 2010!

May we all have Courage!

-chuckle- My words sigh and bahhh humbug posted as crossed out. I didn’t do that. Does a Happiness Elf vet your comments? -repeat chuckle-

Now I get it! If you use a certain stroke, before/after a word, it signals your blog to strike it! Cute!
