Mis Priss

Thank you, thank you, thank you for providing a word for a desire that has long plagued me — namely, the desire to peek into boarded-up construction sites.

Ah, the power of the German language.

Foolish young woman that I was at 18, I determined to learn the German language so that I might read Goethe in his own language. The deep impressions made on my still tender brain by the German vocabulary haunts me still. Now an aged crone, I sometimes want to write or speak a word and the English word eludes me for a second or so. Too often, up springs its German cognate or what seems to me like its German cognate. Not a word from French, a language I admire and can speak without great fear. Not a synonym from my native language, English. But a German word!

Your work offers a more entertaining way of getting past such moments. Cursing the German people has not entertained me at all. Thank you.
