Bernie Sanders Wears No US Flag Pin

, , , , ,

There is a decades-old custom followed by most candidates for the presidency of wearing American flag pins on their left coat lapel. Of course, wearing an American flag lapel pin doesn’t mean very much. It doesn’t really prove that you are genuinely patriotic or genuinely love America.

But failure to follow that trivial practice tends to be noticed and to provoke comment. Barack Obama ran into questions from reporters about not wearing one back in 2007. Obama initially characteristically sneered at the custom, but pressure mounted and by the next Spring of the election year, Candidate Obama fell into line and began wearing the flag pin.

In the run-up to this election, we have another representative of the radical left-wing of the democrat party who is obviously more comfortable denouncing America for institutionalized injustice than participating in conventional displays of patriotic symbols. Vermont’s Socialist Senator Bernie Sanders (as you can see in the above photo) has been substituting a gold lapel pin in the place of that conventional US flag.

Naturally, one wondered: Is it a small gold hammer-and-sickle? Is he wearing (sentimentally) the symbol of the IWW (Wobblies)? Looking into it, I found that I was not the first to inquire. And the correct answer may be given here.

Bernie Sanders is deliberately side-stepping the flag lapel pin issue, by wearing instead the gold badge which identifies him in the Capitol building to security as a US Senator.

After all, how could we expect Senator Sanders to wear the flag of a country like ours. Senator Sanders denounced America as unjust in a speech he delivered just yesterday evening.

[I]n my view, it would be hard for anyone in this room today to make the case that the United States of America, our great country, a country which all of us love, it would be hard to make the case that we are a just society, or anything resembling a just society today.

In the United States of America today, there is massive injustice in terms of income and wealth inequality. Injustice is rampant. ..

[T]here is no justice when so few have so much and so many have so little.

What would Sanders do if he were present for the playing on the national anthem?

Not so the lapel pin clearly is the “Eye of Sauron”, er, rather the “Eye of Soros.”

No, it’s not decades old, and only became an issue when Obama had already clinched the Democratic nomination and didn’t wear one in a debate with McCain. A few days after the media furor, he’s worn one ever since. I doubt it will become a media furor for Sanders unless he doesn’t wear a flag if he is the Democratic nominee.

Since the beginning of his candidacy I have wondered about his lapel pin, even asked his campaign staff but got no reply.

What he said about the U.S. in his recent speech is not a denunciation of the country “we love” as he put it, but a statement of fact, and I agree with Bernie on most issues and think he will lead us to becoming a better country than any of the Republicans or Hillary.

His ideas are sensible and based on logic, compassion, genuine concern.

Kudos to Bernie Sanders for not falling into line like the rest of the sheep. He is interested in talking about issues that affect the American people — ALL the people. He isn’t interested in a facade: he’s the real thing.

A real communist.

If you say, “I love America, and all of the citizens of this country.” But your actions are that of someone who doesn’t, your words don’t mean anything.

If you wear a lapel pin saying “I love America, look at this flag.” But you send 6,000 American soldiers to die in the Middle East, you’re a piece of garbage and that lapel pin doesn’t mean anything.

Actions speak louder than words/BS trivial symbology.

Flags-worship is idolatrous, and if you love your country you should rebuke it when it is not living-up to its potential…nothing Mr Sanders has said about America comes within two orders of magnitude of what the Biblical l prophets said about Israel and Judah,.

As for Obama’s being some sort of radical leftist: no, he is a Rockefeller Republican.

Hey all you Bernie loving Commies, if you think that America is bad and evil. Then get the hell out of here. Go to China or another commie country. Need flash. Socialism is a Communism. It has nothing to do with social media. You dumb fucks.

The picture of Obama not having his hand over his heart is photoshopped.

I agree with the guy who commented about flag-worship as idolatrous.

It’s RIDICULOUS. I applaud Bernie for NOT just being a SHEEP—like EVERY ONE of the fools running on the Republican side.

And one more thing—to commenter Mitch, who invited those who don’t agree about the sheep-pin idiocy and invited us to move to China—FUCK YOU, Mitch!

I don’t pledge allegiance to JACKSHIT. I’m a citizen of this country as well as Canada. I don’t just buy into anything that either one does/professes. I listen to hundreds of baseball games every season and have it down to a science—I turn off that stupid Star Spangled Banana…and know exactly when it’s over…to hear the game…

I agree with Alison about the comments

No brains!! Just an old fashion idiot!!

Enough of the Bernie bash. Seriously, he’s not an extremist nor a socialist, but a democratic socialist (look up the meaning). Not a communist, either (again, look it up in a dictionary). I have a history degree. I’m not a genius but he’s not the things u said. And seriously, the conspiracy theories sound even more ridiculous. Nothing wrong with being the black sheep. It means you don’t blindly follow, but instead can think for yourself. He’s been in politics 40+ yrs, & with much success & popularity.
I understand many of u are upset with the state of our nation; me, too. But before attaching terms that u may think r correct (i’ve done it, too!) but aren’t, please do
some simple research.
And seriously, with all the important American issues & world issues, you’re worried about a simple tiny pin? It’s not like it has a Nazi or Communism symbol. It’s a simple pin. Try & look at the bigger picture, not petty things. Please.
