Before you cast the first stone, what did you do for the poor today? Or, have I done, for that matter?
Having said that, I would love to see formal reprimands of Catholic politicians who are tireless abortion advocates. As our society devolves away from the Christian faith which was ubiquitous at the time of the Founding Fathers, feel-good dinners like this will become increasingly discordant. It’s a prudential judgement deciding when such a dinner becomes a cooperation with evil. Your disquiet with the occasion suggests that time is coming.
