I grew up in the 50’s. I am too old to change and I have seen too much that drugs have caused to ever be convinced that there is anything at all about them that is beneficial. We made a terrible mistake to legalize and encourage drugs. I would be in favor of decriminalizing drug use while increasing the penalties for drug distribution. Decriminalize BUT require treatment. Not decriminalize and do nothing to help users or prevent drug use. If you have children, grand children, great grand children this all seems obvious. You see beautiful babies grow up to be sweet children and active teens with a future and a life who suddenly are destroyed by drug use. It may be their fault, it may be their friends fault, it may be some pushers fault. Doesn’t matter how it happened only what is next. Help them, no other choice allowed; help them get off drugs. Make drugs harder and harder to get. It should never be a socially or legally accepted choice to use drugs. In every case these people should be required/forced to go through a rehabilitation and receive follow up help to kick drugs.
As for the “forever war on drugs”. We do allow and insist on a forever war on rape, murder, even tax evasion. Why not a law/system that saves children and adults from drugs???
